Abstract
The aim of the project is to thoroughly reform the introductory courses in scientific computing. Gender awareness will encompass all changes, with the intent purpose of rendering the courses more attractive for female students, and thus broadening the recruitment basis for the courses, the subject, and the study programs in which the courses are given. In a long term perspective, we see this revision as part of a larger scale reformation of the engineering programs. We are using a student centered pedagogy that supports the students' construction of meaningfulness through highlighting the subject's interdisciplinary nature and role in society. The pedagogical model is based on action research cycles in which the students are given the opportunity to act, observe, reflect, and finally revise.
