New Organization in January 2010
In January 2010, the Basic Research Unit at Simula was reorganized in ten new research groups instead of the old department structure. Please visit Basic Research to see the new structure. This page will not be updated anymore.
Motivation
Software systems form the foundation of the modern information society. Such systems, whether they stand alone or are embedded in other technological systems, are crucial to the development of the social, political, economic, and cultural worlds. Software development is a highly complex, multidisciplinary activity, and today’s software development projects frequently face serious difficulties in meeting the expected schedule, cost budget and quality level.
The Software Engineering (SE) department of Simula addresses these challenges; that is, the motivation for our research is to generate insights, methods and products that enable more efficient, predictable and higher-quality software development.
Research Activities
Our research is conducted in close collaboration with the software industry. Moreover, because software engineering is performed by humans in organizations, we collaborate with researchers from other disciplines, such as psychology, educations, economics, statistics and management.
Our projects are:
- APPROVE (testing, verification & validation, and evolution)
- PREPARE (software cost estimation and requirements engineering)
The SE department participates in a number of Journal and Conference Boards
