The Ministry has decided to appoint an independent committee to evaluate key issues related to whether the Norwegian intelligence service should access telephone and data traffic in and out of Norway. These questions bring to attention several fundamental issues related to safeguarding privacy and personal freedom in the digital sphere. The study will be part of the Government’s assessment related to Norwegian intelligence work and the way Norwegian intelligence can access information.
The work will be concluded in a report that is due by the end of June 2016.
