Simula's Center for Resilient Networks and Applications (CRNA) performs long-term measurements of Norwegian mobile broadband networks. The measurements form the basis for an annual report on the stability and performance of these networks. The second annual report focusing on the user-experienced robustness of the mobile broadband experience has now been released.

This year¹s report shows a clear improvement in the experienced stabilityof mobile broadband networks, says Ahmed Elmokashfi, responsible for thereport. The improvement is clear on several important metrics, such asconnection stability, packet loss and stability in performance. He adds that several of the improvements can be explained by very concreteconfiguration updates that the operators implemented during 2014. Weobserve that several of the problems we pointed out in last year¹s reportrelated to connection stability and packet loss, have now disappeared. Webelieve that our measurements have played an important role in discoveringand diagnosing these problems, and we are happy to see that stability hasnow improved.

New in this year¹s report is also measurements of LTE networks. LTE isnow the dominating technology for mobile data traffic, and we are happythat we can also include LTE in our report. In our measurements, wesee that LTE brings improvements to the user experience both in terms ofspeed, reduced delay and reduced packet loss.

The report (in Norwegian) is available here. For further information aboutthe report, please contact Ahmed Elmokashfi
