Stuart Clark began work at Simula in April 2007 as a postdoc in the Computational Geosciences Project in the Department of Scientific Computing. Since January 2010, he has also led the Computational Geoscience Group. Having studied the interactions of the earth's surface and mantle, Stuart Clark completed his PhD in Geophysics at the University of Sydney. Concurrently, he also completed a Master of Arts. Prior to this, in mid-2000, Stuart Clark finished honours in Geophysics, and then in 2001 completed a combined degree in Arts and Science, with majors in Mathematics, Philosophy and Arabic Language, History and Culture. Currently, Dr. Clark lives in Oslo with his wife and two children.
Model of subducting plates (grey) into the Earth's interior
Research Interests:
- Simulations of plate subduction in the mantle and the implications on the surface
- Understanding the development of back-arc basins: those that form behind subduction zones
- Models of rift formation as two plates pull apart
- High performance computing related to Geoscience
- Stochastic methods to constrain uncertainty in Earth simulations
