ArcticCrypt 2025 in Svalbard
Published:
The ArcticCrypt 2025 conference, held in Longyearbyen, Svalbard brought together cryptographers from around the world for a week of research presentations and discussions from July 6th to 11th.
The conference began with a day of talks, followed by an evening session featuring invited speakers Allison Bishop and Kenny Paterson and was held during Norway’s infamous midnight sun.
Presentations during the week covered a range of topics in the field, including zero-knowledge protocols and post-quantum TLS. Further talks addressed the identification of cryptography problems in practical applications and the development of the quantum internet.
“It was so great to see many people enjoy the scientific program at ArcticCrypt. People attended presentations with the beautiful nature at Svalbard outside and even stayed up well after midnight to learn about cryptographic problems in finance and the quantum internet. It was wonderful to see new connections being made, both over academic discussions and more casual conversations, a testament to our plan of ‘trapping’ people in a small community to foster networking being a great success.”
- Martha Nordbereg Hovd, Simula UiB Postdoctoral Fellow
The event was organised by a team from Simula UiB: Håvard Raddum, Martha Norberg Hovd and Morten Øygarden, along with Irati Manterola Ayala and Åsfrid Persson.
Financial support for the Arctic Crypt conference came from the Research Council of Norway (Norges forskningsråd), Norwegian National Security Authority (Nasjonal sikkerhetsmyndighet), Thales, and PQShield. ArcticCrypt 2025 was held in cooperation with the International Association for Cryptologic Research.
