The center concentrates on foundational research in software abstractions, automated quantum software development, circuit optimization, noise reduction, execution on near-term quantum hardware, and quantum artificial intelligence. &lt;p&gt;In the Department of ComplexSE, we are now offering a postdoctoral position within the Q-VERSE EU project, which aims to provide a ready-to-use quantum software toolkit that supports various APIs and HPC interfaces in an open and transparent manner for Europe’s quantum developers and industry stakeholders. Q-VERSE will develop dedicated GAIA-X-compliant quantum interfaces and will build its foundation on the first fully European-developed, open-source quantum software development kit, Eclipse Qrisp.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The postdoctoral fellow will carry out research on software infrastructure and enabling components for hybrid quantum–classical computing. The work will concentrate on creating frameworks and middleware that facilitate the integration of quantum computing with traditional HPC and cloud environments. Main activities include designing quantum–classical workflow frameworks, developing testing and benchmarking platforms for quantum applications and platforms, and building integration middleware to support European HPC and cloud infrastructures.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Research activities will focus on the design of novel continual online Machine Learning (ML) algorithms in the context of embodied physical interactions mediated by remote robotic avatars. The main goal is to build models that can predict accurately both forward human action and multimodal sensory (visual, haptic) feedback (from the robotic avatar) to guarantee cognitive consonance so that spatial or temporal discrepancies between humans are within their tolerable perceptual thresholds. These models will learn a representation that integrates: a) Electroencephalography (EEG)-based brain anticipatory potentials to constrain timing and spatial direction of upcoming operator’s action, and brain Error potentials to detect mispredictions; b) motion tracking sensors, such as Electromyography (EMG) being and motion capture sensors; c) robotic avatar actions; and d) multimodal sensory feedback through the robotic controllers. These robotic controllers will also exploit these prediction models to plan state-action sequences, disruption anticipation and adaptation.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We are looking for a PhD student who will be part of an interdisciplinary research environment with both national (University of Oslo) and international collaborators (University of Texas at Austin, USA, and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Italy).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The position is available for a period of 3 years. Given the availability of additional funding and a good match with the SimulaMet needs, the position may be extended to a maximum of 4 years, including other duties and/or research stays. &lt;p&gt;Research activities at DataSci focus on developing data science/machine learning (ML) methods focusing on multimodal learning, knowledge-guided ML and interpretable pattern discovery as well as their applications in various fields, in particular, in (multimodal &amp;amp; longitudinal) omics and neuroimaging data analysis. The group has strong expertise in tensor decompositions, which lie at the heart of AI. DataSci develops models and algorithms, and releases open-access toolboxes pushing the state-of-the-art in data science in terms of multimodal learning and interpretable pattern discovery. The group has a wide network of collaborators and has access to unique data and research challenges provided by clinical partners. We are looking for a PhD student who will be part of this interdisciplinary and international research environment, and share our passion to develop impactful data science methods pushing the frontiers in multiple disciplines.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This PhD project will focus on multimodal learning. Data sets from diverse sources are collected in many applications to have a better understanding of complex systems such as the human brain, human metabolome, or to detect early risk factors for various diseases. For instance, to detect early life risk factors of various diseases, multi-omics data sets including genetic, longitudinal metabolomics and microbiome data are collected. Such multimodal data sets are often noisy, incomplete, and multiway (i.e., with more than two axes of variation such as subjects, metabolites, and time). Some data sets change in time (e.g., longitudinal measurements) while some are static. A crucial requirement for ML/data science methods to turn such complex data into knowledge is interpretability. An effective multimodal approach which is explainable and interpretable by design is to learn latent embeddings jointly from multiple data sets via coupled matrix/tensor factorizations. On the other hand, there are multimodal foundation models being developed in many disciplines to address similar challenges in the presence of abundant data. The topic of the PhD research will lie at the intersection of multimodal learning, self-supervised learning, contrastive learning and (coupled) tensor decompositions. The project will focus on developing interpretable multimodal learning methods jointly analyzing data from abundant and scarce data modalities, exploring the nonlinearity-interpretability tradeoff.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We will consider candidates who have a BS and MS degree &lt;strong&gt;(both) &lt;/strong&gt;in computer science, data science/machine learning, signal processing, and applied mathematics. Other required qualifications include&lt;/p&gt;
