5G and Beyond: The SimulaMet Networking Lab (multiple thesis topics)

SimulaMet has established the SimulaMet Networking Lab, providing state-of-the-art hardware to create mobile broadband network (5G) setups for research and development purposes. Within our lab infrastructure, we provide the opportunity for different master thesis projects in a very interesting and highly relevant area of computer networking research!

The actual topic of a master thesis can be negotiated, depending on the research interests and already-available skills. Possibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Anomaly detection in a 5G Network Core
  • Network performance measurements in 5G Network Core/Mobile Edge Computing

Goals

  • Obtaining a Master's degree, of course
  • Setting up your own 5G network in our lab
  • Contributing to state-of-the-art research in computer networking

Learning outcome

  • Learn about mobile broadband networks (5G, etc.)
  • Work on an interesting topic in the area of mobile broadband networks

Qualifications

  • Basics of computer networking (IP, routing, TCP, etc.) needed
  • Basics of Linux/Unix system administration needed
  • Some programming skills
  • Ideally, some experience with virtualisation and containers (e.g. Docker)

Supervisors

  • Thomas Dreibholz

Collaboration partners

  • Copenhagen Business School (CBS)
