The Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance, Karianne Tung, visited Simula Research Laboratory on Tuesday, May 28th.
During her visit, Tung got to know more about the various projects and initiatives at Simula, aimed at solving fundamental challenges in ICT to benefit society. The minister was welcomed by Lillian Røstad, Managing Director of Simula, giving an introduction to the Simula group.
“We appreciate that the minister took the time to visit Simula and learn more about what we do. Simula has extensive experience with advanced research in the Ministry’s focus areas and many years of great collaboration. For example delivering results and research-backed advice through the EDOS and CRNA centers, which are funded by the Ministry”, says Lillian Røstad.
In the meeting, three expertise areas were highlighted. The first topic of focus was Simula’s work with effective digitalisation of the public sector through the EDOS center, presented by center leader Professor Magne Jørgensen. Research from the center is widely spread and has influenced how the public sector works with digitalisation in an evidence-based manner.
The second topic was the Center for Resilient Networks and Applications (CRNA), which contributes valuable research on the security and robustness of the Norwegian digital infrastructure. This was presented by Professor Olav Lysne, Director of SimulaMet. He underscored the importance and need for their research on privacy and vulnerability in digital value chains.
The final topic was, naturally, artificial intelligence (AI) — one of the major focus areas for Simula, and the Ministry. Michael A. Riegler, Chief research scientist on AI, presented this area, focusing on projects within health, the public sector, and sustainability.
