Studying arrhythmia risks with patient-specific models of the heart

Abstract:

Mathematical models of the heart have proven to give valuable insights into its function and malfunction under different cardiovascular diseases. In this talk, we will focus on the propagation of the action potential wave that precedes and synchronizes the heart's contraction and highlight the importance of modeling the complex and highly heterogeneous structure of cardiac tissue. Results from patient-specific models suggest that uncertainty quantification studies are fundamental when assessing the risks of cardiac arrhythmia.
