Simula UiB event: Quantum cyber security

Published:

Simula UiB is collaborating with NCE Finance Innovation on this event that will cover how tomorrow's quantum revolution is affecting today's cyber security. On Tuesday, March 12, at Simula UiB's offices in Bergen.

Background

Emerging quantum technologies are expected to revolutionise the way users and businesses perform computations and transmit information. For example, applications of quantum computers range from materials science to pharmaceutical research to finance. However, these same features that make quantum computers so appealing — possibly solving intractable problems much more efficiently than their classical counterparts — also pose a threat to modern cyber security.

It is known that the cryptographic tools that our modern digital infrastructure relies on will no longer be considered secure in a world in which adversaries have access to large enough quantum computers. While most estimates suggest that scalable and reliable quantum computers are still 10-15 years away, the consensus is that this is not a problem only for the future. Researchers and industry are already working together in developing and deploying new cyber security mechanisms that remain secure in a quantum world.

Event details

This event, organised by Simula UiB in collaboration with NCE Finance Innovation, will provide a discussion forum on the opportunities and threats posed by quantum technologies to cyber security. Aimed mainly at professionals in the financial sector, the event will have short talks by researchers and practitioners, as well as interactive sessions, focusing on recent developments and current efforts in the development, deployment and standardisation of quantum-safe security mechanisms. After the technical sessions, participants will also have the opportunity for some networking in Simula UiB’s modern offices.

Time: Tuesday, March 12 · 1:30 - 5pm CET

Location: Simula UiB, Thormøhlens gate 53D 5006 BERGEN
