The impacts of media violence on children are the most heavily researched issue in the field of media effect studies. The aim of this article is to summarize and confront the theories of media violence, which have been developed so far, highlighting shortcomings of the studies on which these theories are based. I discuss the general methodological difficulties of studying impacts of media violence, thus trying to provide an explanation, why after decades of intensive research there is no final answer to the question of television violence yet.
